Trailer Breakdowns – Avengers: Age of Ultron

First of all, let me just say: this was probably Marvel’s best teaser yet. The Ultron reveal, Captain America’s shattered shield, Tony suiting up in the Hulkbuster armor – everything was amazingly well done (the warped “I’ve Got No Strings” from Pinocchio was also an excellent addition, providing just the right level of creepiness for the Avenger’s new nemesis). But what all does this mean for Phase Two? Or even Phase Three for that matter? Let’s take a look:

Black Panther Confirmed?

This one should be a no brainer given the massive demand for the character to star in his own film, but this new teaser pretty much confirms that T’Challa will appear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe at some point. First appearing in Fantastic Four #52 in 1966, the Black Panther belongs to the Panther Tribe in the African nation of Wakanda, the same nation that owns the majority of Vibranium supplies in the Marvel Universe. You might remember that as being the metal Captain America’s shield is made out of. Since we can see it’s been broken now, it’s clear that the Avengers will have to make the trek to Wakanda to fix Steve’s shield, a la Earth’s Mightiest Heroes.

Ultron Will Upgrade To His Comic Book Form

Remember the Entertainment Weekly cover from July 16th? Here it is again:

Ultron has a noticeably different look compared to the end shot in the trailer we just saw, especially in the head and face (notice the lack of eyes or eyebrow style metal pieces). Granted, the Hulk had a different sounding roar in early The Avengers teasers compared to the final product (check around the 1:53 mark), but given Ultron’s history of constantly upgrading himself (and the different looks Ultron has throughout the trailer, including seemingly starting off in a nearly destroyed robotic body), it seems he will do it at least a few times to combat the Avengers.

Mind Control Will Be Involved In Some Capacity

We already saw Loki’s Scepter in the first post credit scene of The Winter Soldier (along with key Age of Ultron players like Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch), and we already know the twins won’t exactly be friends of the Avengers at first. However, what’s interesting is at the 1:21 mark in the trailer, where we see a rather disturbed looking Hulk (more so than usual anyway). Looking a little sickly, and incredibly confused, it’s entirely possible that the Hulk is brainwashed by either Ultron or Baron Strucker (who will appear in some capacity in Age of Ultron) into attacking his fellow Avengers.
