Things We Can All Look Forward To In The Upcoming Year

2014 was a good year for superheroes. We got news about a potential sequel to Injustice, Marvel fans everywhere flocked to the theaters to see Guardians of the Galaxy and Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Fox and Sony had decent superhero films in their X-Men and The Amazing Spider-Man sequels, and a good number of events/releases showed the public that the best stuff is right around the corner. With that in mind, let’s take a look at what all comic book fans can look forward to as 2015 draws near:

The third and final game in Rocksteady’s Arkham series, Batman: Arkham Knight, is scheduled for release on June 2, 2015. Set a year after the events of Arkham City, Scarecrow unites a number of Batman villains, including Harley Quinn, Penguin, and Two Face, alongside the mysterious Arkham Knight, in a plot to kill the Dark Knight.

Marvel Comics fans have a couple of movies to look forward to this coming year; Avengers: Age of Ultron and Ant-Man will be released in the United States on May 1, 2015 and July 17, 2015, respectively. The sequel to 2012’s billion dollar box office smash The Avengers pits the titular team against the villainous robot Ultron, who is poised to destroy the human race. Ant-Man showcases Paul Rudd’s Scott Lang, who must plan the perfect heist in order to save the planet from the villainous Yellowjacket.

Fox’s most controversial superhero film, The Fantastic Four, is still set for release on August 7, 2015. Similar to Fox’s first film about the team, it seems the plot will again focus on four scientists who must save the world after gaining superhuman abilities. Despite filming already having been completed, no trailers or concept art has emerged about the film, save for the occasional leak of on-set photos. It remains to be seen if it will be released on time, or if Fox will make good on its promise of a sequel in 2017. Fox’s other film, X-Men: Days of Future Past is getting a new, distinct cut (aptly named the “Rogue Cut“, due to the inclusion of the Rogue scenes originally cut from the theatrical version of the film).

There’s also a good number of comic book titles to look forward to in 2015, including a spin off of the Spider-Verse event for the Spider-Gwen character, a solo title for Squirrel Girl, and a sequel to the 1980s classic Secret Wars. Look forward to full reviews for these titles (and more) in the coming year.

Even with the occasional worrying moment from next year (looking at you Fox), 2015 is shaping up to be an amazing year, and I for one am looking forward to it eagerly. I hope all of my readers have had an excellent 2014, and I hope to see you all again in 2015. Happy New Year everyone!
