“Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.”: Season 3 Opening (Could’ve Been Better?)

Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. released the opening scene from the upcoming season 3, and it was awesome. It’s everything you’d expect to see in the MCU version of the Tomorrow People, complete with terrified people discovering their powers and shady individuals tracking them down. Chloe Bennet’s Daisy Johnson using her powers is a nice touch too.

Even with this great first look at the episode though, I can’t help but feel like it needed a little something extra. For instance, why wouldn’t they have a younger character discovering his/her powers? Like the X-Men in Marvel’s comics, I feel like the Inhumans should work as a metaphor for discovering one’s self, whoever that may be. Considering the franchise gathered a large number of fans serving as a metaphor for young people on topics like homosexuality, the civil rights movement, and simply growing into adulthood, it would’ve been a nice touch to go back and reference mutantkind’s origins by having a kid discovering themselves for the first time.

Either way, I really liked this intro, and I hope the next season fits with the exact same tone this footage had. Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will air its third season on Tuesday, September 29th.
