If you haven’t already heard, the newest trailer for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice premiered last night on Jimmy Kimmel Live. Even though it was a great trailer, and got a lot of people excited for the 2016 movie, I find myself asking the same question every time I watch it: did it give away a little too much?

Like I said above, it’s a great trailer (I certainly enjoyed watching it at least). The dialog is all very well written, and is highly reminiscent of a scene during the 1997 Superman: The Animated Series episode “World’s Finest”. In fact, I’d be surprised if this isn’t how Batman and Superman get acquainted while in costume during the events of the film.

The acting is very good as well, especially from Henry Cavill and Ben Affleck during their first meeting in the trailer (loved the Joker reference by Bruce!). Jesse Eisenberg’s Lex, on the other hand, leaves a little to be desired. It’s not that I’m against humor in this film, since I thought the exchange between Clark and Bruce about Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot) towards the end of the trailer was a nice touch. However, I think Eisenberg put a little too much of a light-hearted spirit into his portrayal of Lex, to the point where I’m actually worried it might hurt the film in some way.

Speaking of hurting the film, I can’t believe this trailer actually showed off the main physically powered villain of the film, Doomsday. Despite being heavily rumored for months on end, DC and Warner Bros never actually confirmed anything, leaving his appearance up for debate up until the trailer’s release. This is the biggest problem I have with the trailer (a small bit of a much larger problem I plan on writing about in the future), in that this sort of reveal should have been held back by the studio as long as humanly possible. Even so, his appearance allows the movie to play off of the “fighting till they have to work together” cliche, something that probably should have been written out of the film entirely.

All in all, it’s not a bad trailer. If you’re a Batman, Superman, or general DC fan, then definitely watch the trailer when you can. However, if you’re the type who wants to avoid spoilers as much as possible, then stay away and give this version of the trailer a shot instead.
