Entertainment Weekly just revealed the first ever look at Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange, straight from the cover of their upcoming First Look issue! You can check out the image for yourself below:

Awesome right? I love how the costume was toned down and given a more real-world appearance, yet still looks comic accurate and very proper for the Sorcerer Supreme. What really interests me, however, is the new design for the amulet Strange is wearing on his chest, called the Eye of Agamotto in the comics. While a number of designs for the amulet have appeared over the years, it generally takes the form of a simple giant eye. However, the Entertainment Weekly cover shows us a decidedly different interpretation, with the amulet sporting crisscrossing metallic bands in front of the eye shape.

Another interesting thing to note is the lack of Strange’s usual spellcasting hand poses, given that the character is casting a spell in the picture. However, as Cumberbatch notes in the interview, “I’m still in the infancy of learning all that.”

“It was like, okay, I’ve got to keep throwing these poses, these spells, these rune-casting things, everything he does physically. I’m thinking, there’s going to be a huge amount of speculation and intrigue over the positioning of that finger as opposed to it being there, or there. And I’m still working on that. We haven’t played any of those scenes yet. I felt really self-conscious. But, then, by the end, it was great. It’s like anything, you just have to experiment.”

Although the issue of the magazine featuring the character will appear on stands on Tuesday, there’s no guarantee that we’ll see too much information, given that the film is still very early in production. Still, when it comes to Doctor Strange, any new information is still great.

Doctor Strange will arrive in theaters on November 4, 2016.
