While the latest issue of the magazine hits stands today, Entertainment Weekly has been releasing a large amount of content about upcoming movies and TV shows on their website. One major story comes fresh from the set of Daredevil, with production on the second season currently in full swing. Although the piece focuses heavily on the Punisher character, there are a couple of new bits of information regarding ol’ Hornhead and his relationships with other characters.

According to EW, the second season of the extremely popular Netflix show kicks things off in a major way, with a fast paced action scene that quickly introduces Jon Berenthal’s Frank Castle, aka the Punisher, to the audience. According to showrunner Doug Petrie, the second season takes advantage of season one having introduced the show, allowing them to “dive right in” to the action and story.

The advantage of any sequel is you can dive right in…We hit the ground running and then we ran as fast as we f—ing could.

Petrie continues his discussion on the Punisher character during the interview, noting that the use of the character “get people to think” in regards to his brutal (and often fatal) methods of dealing justice.

Viewers watching the show will be rooting for this guy with a gun but we’re also going to force people — the way we force Matt — to second-guess themselves…Taking lethal justice into your own hands in America in 2015 is tricky s–t. We have not shied away from the rich complicated reality of Now. If you’ve got a gun and you’re not the police you’re going to incite strong feelings. We’re stirring the pot and we’re aware of the headlines where we live and we’re trying to get people to think.

Berenthal himself continues mentioning how people really don’t want him to mess up the role, noting that the character has a certain resonance with a number of people, including military and law enforcement officials.

This character has resonated with law enforcement and military. He’s brought the war home with him in the worst possible way. And the best thing about him is that if he offends you, he just doesn’t care.

Good news if you’re a big fan of Matt Murdock’s relationships: Petrie stated that there will be a lot more interaction between Daredevil and Karen Page, (Deborah Ann Woll) as well as with the hinted at college girlfriend, Elektra (Elodie Yung). Will we see a love triangle of sorts form throughout the second season?

Matt’s a deeply moral complicated guy and [Elektra]’s just the best bad girlfriend you can possibly have…She does everything wrong and attractive, she’s his id, the wild side. Matt is always taming his wild side. Elektra just lets it out. He’s both repulsed and deeply drawn to that.

The second season of Daredevil will arrive on Netflix sometime in 2016. In the meantime, keep checking back here at Comic Books vs The World for any new information (and don’t forget to grab a copy of today’s Entertainment Weekly!)
