If you haven’t heard, there’s a new teaser trailer out for the upcoming second season of Daredevil (which you can read about here), and it looks amazing. Even if you’ve seen it before, go ahead and watch it below. Go on, I’ll wait.

Isn’t it awesome? Most of the teaser is basically a “Greatest Hits” of the first season, but presented as a series of church paintings (in keeping with Matt Murdock’s Catholic background). All of the artwork looks great, and I love the slow progression and presentation of all the characters, just as the camera pulls back to show us the biggest and best piece in the entire church (presented in poster form below):

Just after they show this, gunfire erupts and blows away the church’s windows. We then fade to black and see the premiere date for the second season (March 18, 2016).

Like I said before, I think this teaser is amazing, and I absolutely love it. I especially like how the big piece of church art is chock full of a number of Easter eggs and references from the first season of the show. Obviously, everyone can make out the Punisher’s skull logo, but did you notice Elektra’s sai on the ground? Look to the bottom left corner, you’ll see them.

Also pay attention to how the characters are laid out in this image. You have Daredevil dead center, almost looking like a guardian angel watching over everyone. Matt’s friends, Foggy, Karen, and Claire, are positioned on the left, along with his father Jack, Ben Urich, Father Lantom, and a host of other individuals (citizens, some police officers and firefighters, etc).

In the middle, we can see Matt’s former tutor Stick, as well as his associate Stone, and a blonde woman I’m assuming is Marci. Interestingly enough, you can also clearly see the Black Sky child from episode 7 (titled “Stick”) towards the bottom of the middle section, just above the street. Will we find out more about the Black Sky in this second season?

Finally, we have all of the villains on the right side of the image. Kingpin and Vanessa, Owlsley, Nobu, Madam Gao, and Wesley are most prominent on this side. They’re joined by Brett Mahoney and his partner, John Healy (the assassin from episode 3, titled “Rabbit in a Snowstorm”), and a host of others, most of them police.

The symbolism and meaning in this image is astoundingly deep. For one thing, did you notice how everyone on the side of Daredevil’s allies is climbing up to join them, while everyone not in power on Kingpin’s side (the side of ill intent) is falling to their doom, complete with the red tinge of light? This extends to the street below, with people on the left acting nonviolently, and people on the right threatening to gun civilians down. Speaking of the street, Elektra’s been stated to have a slightly antagonistic relationship with Daredevil this season, which might explain why she isn’t on the image. But take a look at the position of the sai. That’s right, on the left side of the image/the side of good. Obviously, her problems with Matt won’t last too long.

Overall, I love how deep and full of clues this teaser is. If I’ve missed any clues, be sure to let me know in the comments below, or with a tweet through that widget on the left.
