Could Supergirl Move to The CW?

The Wrap recently reported that Supergirl show may be in trouble.

While it’s been well known for a while now that the CBS show is struggling with renewal issues, The Wrap reported that a combination of low ratings and a hefty “$3 million per-episode price tag CBS pays to broadcast “Supergirl”” are the main drawbacks to the network renewing the show for another season. Unfortunately, CBS has to work out a deal with Warner Bros. Television as soon as possible, since the network is scheduled to announce its fall schedule in about two weeks.

However, as The Wrap points out, both organizations have a simple solution to their Supergirl problem: move it to The CW (co-owned by Warner Bros. and CBS). But could this work? From a story stand point, it absolutely could. Why not have someone destroy Supergirl’s universe, forcing her to come to Barry Allen for some kind of help?

However, moving between networks might be a bit more of a hassle for some of the cast, who may not appreciate trading in their CBS LA shooting schedule for The CW’s Vancouver one. To be fair though, that “destroying a universe” plot I mentioned above would give The CW to essentially recast everyone and start from scratch.

All this having been said, it’s still more than likely that the move won’t happen. As The Wrap points out:

…budget-conscious CW shows don’t tend to collect huge license fees for the studios. The upshot of a CW shift is that there would very likely be big budget cuts in the offing for “Supergirl.”

An unnamed talent rep was also quoted in the article as stating:

[Supergirl moving to The CW] has been a rumor for two years. Zero fact.

Still, fans can hope right?

Supergirl airs on Mondays at 8 p.m. ET on CBS.
