After a great deal of speculation and rumors, We Got This Covered is reporting that Marvel has begun meeting with independent director Elizabeth Wood, director of 2016’s White Girl.

According to We Got This Covered:

a private meeting was held last week between Marvel representatives and independent filmmaker Elizabeth Wood in order to discuss potential directorial duties. It’s believed that the meeting was brokered by Wood’s producer-husband, Gabriel Nussbaum, with whom Wood has worked on all her professional projects.

It’s important to note that, even if this rumor is true, Marvel has also been circling other female directors to helm their upcoming female superhero’s solo film, including indie director Emily Carmichael. Only time will tell if Marvel decides to go with Carmichael, Wood, or a third (currently unknown) option.

Captain Marvel will arrive in theaters on March 8, 2019.
