Yesterday, a promotional poster for the long rumored Injustice 2 was leaked online, to the joy of fans everywhere. Now, NetherRealm Studios has officially announced the upcoming DC fighting game, as well as released a brand new trailer! Check it out via the video below!

Ed Boon, Creative Director at NetherRealm Studios, stated the following during the announcement:

In Injustice 2, we are introducing new features that will change the way fans play fighting games. We’re always interested in pushing the genre forward and allowing players to customize and level-up their favorite DC Super Heroes and Super-Villains is a significant leap.

The President of Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, David Haddad, also spoke during the announcement, and stated:

Expanding the DC Universe in games continues to be one of our top priorities, and Injustice 2 showcases amazing gameplay and an original story to bring the characters to life for players. NetherRealm Studios is offering fans an experience of customizing and battling with DC’s iconic characters in an entirely new way.

The game is also said to be a continuation of where the story of the last game left off, with Batman and his allies trying to rebuild society, while Superman sympathizers attempt to restore the former tyrant to power. Fans can look forward to increased level size, as well as an expanded roster, including villains such as Gorilla Grodd and Atrocitus.

Injustice 2 will be available for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in 2017.
