Is Gwen Stacy in the New Spider-Man: Homecoming trailer?

Posted: December 12, 2016 in Comic Book News

Despite the fact that the new Spider-Man: Homecoming domestic and international trailers have just been released somewhat recently, fans have already been hard at work trying to uncover all of the secrets and hidden Easter eggs in them. However, one secret seems to have eluded a lot of people watching the new trailers. Take a look at the image below from around the 0:39 mark in the domestic trailer.

Notice anyone familiar? While the main focus of Peter Parker’s and Ned Leeds’s affections in this film will be Laura Harrier’s Liz Allen (pictured above), it looks like Homecoming will also mark the first appearance of another woman in Spider-Man’s love life, that being his first true love, Gwen Stacy. On top of having a similar outfit that Gwen usually wears in the comics, this unidentified character is played by actress Angourie Rice, who has long been the subject of rumors surrounding which character she’s playing in Homecoming. Guess which character the rumors have her pegged as? That’s right, Gwen Stacy.

Although we’ve already seen Gwen before, in 2007’s Spider-Man 3 and in The Amazing Spider-Man series of films, this would mark the first time we get to see her in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, should it be proven that Angourie Rice is actually playing the character. Neither Marvel or Sony have confirmed or denied this theory as of yet.

Spider-Man: Homecoming will arrive in theaters on July 7, 2017
