If you haven’t heard, there’s a new teaser trailer out for the upcoming second season of Daredevil (which you can read about here), and it looks amazing. Even if you’ve seen it before, go ahead and watch it below. Go on, I’ll wait.

Isn’t it awesome? Most of the teaser is basically a “Greatest Hits” of the first season, but presented as a series of church paintings (in keeping with Matt Murdock’s Catholic background). All of the artwork looks great, and I love the slow progression and presentation of all the characters, just as the camera pulls back to show us the biggest and best piece in the entire church (presented in poster form below):

Just after they show this, gunfire erupts and blows away the church’s windows. We then fade to black and see the premiere date for the second season (March 18, 2016).

Like I said before, I think this teaser is amazing, and I absolutely love it. I especially like how the big piece of church art is chock full of a number of Easter eggs and references from the first season of the show. Obviously, everyone can make out the Punisher’s skull logo, but did you notice Elektra’s sai on the ground? Look to the bottom left corner, you’ll see them.

Also pay attention to how the characters are laid out in this image. You have Daredevil dead center, almost looking like a guardian angel watching over everyone. Matt’s friends, Foggy, Karen, and Claire, are positioned on the left, along with his father Jack, Ben Urich, Father Lantom, and a host of other individuals (citizens, some police officers and firefighters, etc).

In the middle, we can see Matt’s former tutor Stick, as well as his associate Stone, and a blonde woman I’m assuming is Marci. Interestingly enough, you can also clearly see the Black Sky child from episode 7 (titled “Stick”) towards the bottom of the middle section, just above the street. Will we find out more about the Black Sky in this second season?

Finally, we have all of the villains on the right side of the image. Kingpin and Vanessa, Owlsley, Nobu, Madam Gao, and Wesley are most prominent on this side. They’re joined by Brett Mahoney and his partner, John Healy (the assassin from episode 3, titled “Rabbit in a Snowstorm”), and a host of others, most of them police.

The symbolism and meaning in this image is astoundingly deep. For one thing, did you notice how everyone on the side of Daredevil’s allies is climbing up to join them, while everyone not in power on Kingpin’s side (the side of ill intent) is falling to their doom, complete with the red tinge of light? This extends to the street below, with people on the left acting nonviolently, and people on the right threatening to gun civilians down. Speaking of the street, Elektra’s been stated to have a slightly antagonistic relationship with Daredevil this season, which might explain why she isn’t on the image. But take a look at the position of the sai. That’s right, on the left side of the image/the side of good. Obviously, her problems with Matt won’t last too long.

Overall, I love how deep and full of clues this teaser is. If I’ve missed any clues, be sure to let me know in the comments below, or with a tweet through that widget on the left. TRAILER GRADE: 10/10

Big news for fans of the Daredevil Netflix show: there’s a new teaser trailer and a premiere date today, courtesy of Netflix and Marvel.

The teaser looks amazing, and I’ll have to do a review of it later today, but you can check it out for yourself right now with the video below.

A premiere date of March 18, 2016 was also revealed for the second season of the highly popular show, placing it exactly one week before the release of the anticipated Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (despite rumors previously claiming that the two projects would be released on the same date).

While the latest issue of the magazine hits stands today, Entertainment Weekly has been releasing a large amount of content about upcoming movies and TV shows on their website. One major story comes fresh from the set of Daredevil, with production on the second season currently in full swing. Although the piece focuses heavily on the Punisher character, there are a couple of new bits of information regarding ol’ Hornhead and his relationships with other characters.

According to EW, the second season of the extremely popular Netflix show kicks things off in a major way, with a fast paced action scene that quickly introduces Jon Berenthal’s Frank Castle, aka the Punisher, to the audience. According to showrunner Doug Petrie, the second season takes advantage of season one having introduced the show, allowing them to “dive right in” to the action and story.

The advantage of any sequel is you can dive right in…We hit the ground running and then we ran as fast as we f—ing could.

Petrie continues his discussion on the Punisher character during the interview, noting that the use of the character “get people to think” in regards to his brutal (and often fatal) methods of dealing justice.

Viewers watching the show will be rooting for this guy with a gun but we’re also going to force people — the way we force Matt — to second-guess themselves…Taking lethal justice into your own hands in America in 2015 is tricky s–t. We have not shied away from the rich complicated reality of Now. If you’ve got a gun and you’re not the police you’re going to incite strong feelings. We’re stirring the pot and we’re aware of the headlines where we live and we’re trying to get people to think.

Berenthal himself continues mentioning how people really don’t want him to mess up the role, noting that the character has a certain resonance with a number of people, including military and law enforcement officials.

This character has resonated with law enforcement and military. He’s brought the war home with him in the worst possible way. And the best thing about him is that if he offends you, he just doesn’t care.

Things will be getting interesting… Image taken from ew.com

Good news if you’re a big fan of Matt Murdock’s relationships: Petrie stated that there will be a lot more interaction between Daredevil and Karen Page, (Deborah Ann Woll) as well as with the hinted at college girlfriend, Elektra (Elodie Yung). Will we see a love triangle of sorts form throughout the second season?

Matt’s a deeply moral complicated guy and [Elektra]’s just the best bad girlfriend you can possibly have…She does everything wrong and attractive, she’s his id, the wild side. Matt is always taming his wild side. Elektra just lets it out. He’s both repulsed and deeply drawn to that.

The second season of Daredevil will arrive on Netflix sometime in 2016. In the meantime, keep checking back here at Comic Books vs The World for any new information (and don’t forget to grab a copy of today’s Entertainment Weekly!)

Welcome back to what is essentially the last post of Daredevil Month everyone. It’s been quite a trip hasn’t it? We’ve looked at costumes, history, comic books, even video games. Before the series comes out tomorrow (and I begin the reviews of each individual episode), I thought it would be a good idea to go back and look at a few important details about the show, especially in light of the red suit reveal Marvel did earlier today.

What happened to Hell’s Kitchen?

In the original Daredevil comic books, the character was set in the Hell’s Kitchen area, due to the large number of Irish immigrants and the rampant crime levels. If you haven’t seen/heard about the area since those days, look it up and prepare to be surprised. The neighborhood actually doesn’t resemble the comics anymore, leading to the show’s writers having to get a little creative.

According to IGN, the decision was made to have the Chitauri attack from 2012’s The Avengers drive Hell’s Kitchen back to Daredevil’s comic book roots, which also allows the Kingpin to enact his own master plan for the area. What exactly is this master plan? Well…

How is the Kingpin involved?

It’s been said before that Kingpin isn’t necessarily a straight villain in this show. Everything he does is supposed to make the city better, in his own way. What exactly that meant wasn’t really revealed until this TV spot, where Kingpin announces that, in order to make the city better, he has to tear it down before it can be “reborn”.

Based on what we’ve seen, I’m guessing Kingpin wants to rebuild the city in his image, allowing for whatever activities he wants to happen to happen without interference. Not much else is confirmed about this plot however, although it will obviously lead Daredevil into a number of conflicts amongst henchmen and local criminals. Which, of course, leads to the question-

When does Daredevil put on the red suit?

This one’s a little bit trickier to figure out, but all it takes is a little logic.

We know that Daredevil starts off with the simple black costume, as we’ve seen in all of the trailers and TV spots thus far. However, as stated by costume designer Stephanie Maslansky, the costume grows out of Matt Murdock’s desire to keep himself protected while fighting crime on the streets. She stated, “We wanted something that looked militaristic and functional, but also dramatic and sexy. It was really tricky to make it both be practical and look.”

Showrunner Stephen DeKnight concurred, stating, “Getting there is part of the fun. … The solution is very exciting and makes complete sense.”

All in all, it seems that the classic red suit won’t actually appear in this show until somewhere near the end (hopefully not during an after-credits scene on the last episode though).

Connections to the rest of the MCU?

Image taken from bleedingcool.com

Even before its release, Daredevil writer Jeph Loeb revealed a connection a number of fans already managed to get some time before. In a promo picture released some time before, it appeared that Jack Murdock would be boxing against a man named Carl “Crusher” Creel, the real name of supervillain the Absorbing Man.

As viewers of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. already know, Creel already appeared as an antagonist against Coulson and his team, leading some to believe that he wouldn’t/couldn’t be the same man boxing Murdock. Loeb however, who also wrote the comic Daredevil: Yellow, revealed that the show would follow that comic’s continuity and have Jack and Crusher boxing one another.

On top of this, earlier trailers already made it clear that other Marvel characters, like Iron Man and Thor, would definitely be referenced by characters in this show. It remains to be seen though if any other street level Marvel characters (like Spider-Man, Moon Knight, or the Punisher) will appear on the show in some way or another.

How do you think the show is going to be? Is Daredevil going to be the show everyone hopes it will be? Leave a comment below, follow me on Twitter, and don’t forget to check out the Comic Books vs The World Youtube channel.
